Sakana Sushi Bar & Cuisine @ Penang Road, Georgetown.

Sakana, a restaurant which i think most penangites familiar with for its location ( intersection of Penang Road and Campbell Street ) but not everyone had tried it. For those who had tried Sakana might never return again as i can see a lot of bad reviews since they starts operating a year ago.

Stepping into a brand new year, they are giving a change and improvement.
Starts from 1st of April 2014, they had role out new menu, improved their management and collaborate with new chef. It shows how committed the restaurant management is in running a truly service oriented restaurant; not only that they listened to all those negative feedback but they accepted it and improve everything. So why not give them another chance to make up for their wrong and serve you better? As for those who haven't tried it is definitely worth to give them a go with all these revamp.

That is why we are invited by Sakana through Tour Directions for this food review.

Deluxe Assorted Roasted Sushi - Rm40
A very simple, clean and straight to the point dish. Sliced sashimi lightly seared for a perfect thin layer on the outside while still remaining soft and raw in the middle. Perfect combination that taste pretty delicious for those that are undecided to go raw or well done. Best still for those first timer on sashimi.

Deluxe Sashimi - Rm55
This is so tempting and hardly able to resist when it is served on table. A very appetizing dish for its freshness and juiciness. Didn't get to try it all but salmon is definatily my first choice. The thickness of the Salmon is just perfect for my liking, in fact those sashimi were sliced generously!

Sakana Special Maki - Rm22

Sakana Aburi Maki - Rm20
For me, the Salmon Aburi Maki is more appealing compared to the Sakana Special Maki, Maybe i'm a salmon lover but no doubt their salmon is the best afterall.

Unagi Tosamaki - Rm22
Can't really taste the unagi, the only thing i can taste is a mixture of ingredients and sprinkled of Dashi flake.

Watana Gani Salad - Rm18
This is something you will die for. I think every one of us love this very much as i can see a lot of smiling faces looking very satisfied. It's a combination of soft shell crabs and salmon skin, pair with a refreshing sesame sauce. I bet you won't stop munching after the first bite.

Butaniku Enoki Maki - Rm14
It's Enoki! My all time favourite, wrapped in slices of lean pork! Not bad thou. The moisture of  the enoki and tenderness of the lean pork were so yummylicious :)

Kamo Teriyaki -Rm18
Don't have the chance to taste this as when i returned to my place from photo shoot, the plate was already empty! LOL. Guess it was too delectable!

Salmon Teppanyaki - Rm20
Slightly dissapointed for this dish. A little less succesfull when I think the chef might want to add in a little twist by adding ginger as one of the ingredient but it tasted oddly. Salmon were overcooked too.

Kansei Chaban - Rm13
This is a rather ordinary fried rice for me, still lack of some 'uummphh' and 'wok hei'.

Yaki Soba - Rm15
This Yaki Soba which consist of generous ingredient of shrimp, fish and squid with some sprinkled of Dashi flake couldn't satisfied me enough. Perhaps, the sweetness is a little overwhelming.

The reason one might pull back from visiting is because of the parking spaces as Sakana is located along the  busy road where it is almost impossible for you to find a carpark.
But don't freak out, Sakana is providing FREE Carpark for their customer.

Talk Talk Wine Bar & Lounge @ Pekaka Square, Sungai Dua, Penang.

Yo! It's TGIF!
So how do you spend your liveliest Friday?
For me, I'm here at this trendiest rustic spot! I would say it's so true that we can't judge a book by its cover! Ask me why?
Because Talk Talk wine bar looks as if it is an ordinary cafe outside. It is tucked in the residential area in Lip Sin building where you wouldn't believe you could find this cool wine bar here. But I bet you will definitely be awed by the interior and ambience once you first stepped in! The owner actually started off with a single shop lot named Tok Tok Cuisine years back which serves varieties of Thai Food. Now, they had extended the place into three shop lots with three interconnected section which partially serves Thai and Western cuisine, coffee and booze.
Talk Talk was also featured as one of the
10 Penang Cafes for late night Owls!

This catchy name is given with the concept where people can spend their bonding time together after their hectic lifestyle.
Not to mentioned the environment, the food is as good as well!

Alright, now let's foodtok about it!
Siam Egg  -  Rm12.00
Shall i called this an entree?
This golden fried omelettes is so crispy and flavorful, fried to meet it crispiness with vegetables!
Complement with sambal sauce which I doesn't realize until Constance suggested me to dip it.
The outcome was unexpectedly delicious! Folks who love sipaiceeey will be dangerously addicted!

Sar Hor Fun  -  Rm12.90
Frankly speaking, it's nothing to shout out for this plate of Hor Fun but big clap for the
generous portion and liao (ingredients).

Fried Hor Fun  -  Rm12.90
After the Sar Hor Fun, here comes the Fried Hor Fun, one of the most widely available noodle in Thailand.
The wok hei is more than enough as you can taste the slightly burnt aromatic which i feel a little overwhelming.
    Fish Cake  -  Rm4.50 / pcs
This iconic Thai dishes includes a wonderful mix of mince fish meat and spices.
An average dish i would say.

Grilled Chicken Thigh  -  Rm26.90
Chicken Thigh was grilled to perfection and it's not oily at all.
Sides with the baby carrots, broccoli, baby corn and mashed potato.

Pork Chop  -  Rm32.90
Woots! This is the surprising one.
I rarely opt for Porky-porgy as i'm not a very big fans of pork for the reason I feel that pork intensely
a diet killer! Definately a no-no for a person who tend to cut down weight like me!
But it's worth the calories i must said.
This plate of tender juicy lip-licking pork is so hard to refused after the first bite.
You surely won't feel the meat oily as it won't leave a greasy feeling in your mouth after meal.

 Mix Vege  -  Rm18
Sometimes a dish cooked with just a simple combinations of ingredient can be even tastier.
This plate of dish is simple yet mouth-watering with the mixture of black fungus, lotus root, baby corns and green pea.
Makes me think of my mums homecooked dishes :)

 Kapao Mu  -  Rm23
Basil leaves is one of the common culinary herbs in Thailand.
It's omnipresent and almost never bad with primarily Thai food.
Kapao Mu consisted of chicken stir fried, long bean and basil leaves adding a lovely twist of dried chilies.
I like it very much as it's bold in flavor.

Tomyum Seafood  -  Rm68 (L)
You can't call it a Thai meal without a spoonful of tomyum.
I'm already gazing at this steamy claypot tom yum mixed with the heavy coconut milk before it arrived at our table. The spiciness is milder and bearable. Hence, people who can't handle spicyness can go for this version of tomyum.
Can you see the huge prawn and fish? Not to missed with the squid.
However for a fiery addict like me would like it to be spicier.

Pork Bacon Cabonara  -  Rm21.90
This is a real CREAMY one, which is one of my favourite.
Die for the cheesieee creammyyyy! AND PORK BACON!
Calories counting again :(

NOW HOLD ON FOR THE BEST!

Steak  -  Rm68
Tadah! This medium well cooked steak was the top notched of the day!
It's even rare for me to opt for steak as my main; however, this is totally irresistible not only from the appearance but the taste as well!
It's cooked to perfection and sides with some veges and wedges, not to missed out the dressing.
We are lucky enough to sample this new dish which aren't in the menu yet.
Probably will be launch by this month.A MUST-TRY!

Did i mention that one of the boss is the architect of the wine bar?
Yea, all this amazing eye popping interior was done by him!

There will be live band performing on every Friday and Saturday night. Cool!
Do like their facebook for any latest upcoming events.

Boozeeeeee!

You may make a reservation for a big group of folks.
With only minimum expenses of Rm300 on alcoholic beverage
(if i'm not mistaken, only on alcohol beverage -correct me if i'm wrong),
You can occupy a bigger space and comfortable couch to chill.
I personally feel that it's still affordable for group which more than 10 pax.

Finally,I'd like to extend my gratitude to Talk Talk Wine Bar and Tour Directions
for this food review invitation.
Overall it's a good place to hang out with friend and family just that the price is
slightly on the high side. But one may feel it's worth the price to dine in with this environment.
